Bank Chef - Care Home

About the role

Marlborough Court Care Home in Thamesmead is looking for a Bank Chef. The chef prepares and cooks nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents, taking account of individual dietary needs, preferences and medical conditions, while keeping high standards of food safety, hygiene and presentation.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and cook daily meals according to the home's menus and residents' dietary requirements, adapting recipes for special needs such as diabetic, low-sodium and gluten-free diets, and monitoring portion control.
• Collaborate with the Head Chef or Manager to develop menus, using seasonal ingredients and local produce where possible, and gather resident feedback to improve meal offerings.
• Maintain a clean, organised kitchen and ensure food is stored, prepared and served in line with food safety standards; check equipment regularly and report issues.
• Monitor stock levels, order supplies and manage food costs by minimising waste, keeping accurate stock records.
• Work with care home staff to coordinate meal service and handle dietary requests, and supervise and train kitchen assistants or junior staff.
• Engage with residents to understand their dietary preferences and help them choose meals.
