Behaviour Support Mentor

About the role

We are seeking a Behaviour Support Mentor to join an alternative provision school in Hackney, East London. The role starts in September 2026 and involves supporting approximately 100 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom are transitioning between mainstream and alternative settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and group mentoring focused on behaviour management and emotional regulation.
• Develop and implement personalised support plans in line with SEMH frameworks.
• Collaborate with teachers, counsellors and external agencies to ensure consistent interventions.
• Monitor progress, record outcomes and adjust strategies as required.
• Provide a positive, “can‑do” attitude that encourages pupils to achieve their best.

Required profile

• Positive, proactive mindset with a genuine desire to help young people.
• Full‑time availability, Monday‑Friday, 08:30‑15:00.
• Experience in psychology, SEMH, mental health, PRU or alternative provision settings.
• Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviours.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEMH and mental‑health support strategies.
• Experience designing and delivering behaviour‑intervention programmes.
