Behavioural Support Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Behavioural Support Assistant to work with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in Dagenham. This full‑time, term‑time position offers the chance to help young people thrive while gaining experience for future roles in education, psychology or youth support.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs, working one‑to‑one and in small groups to promote positive behaviour.
• Help implement behaviour plans and emotional regulation strategies.
• Assist teachers in maintaining a calm, structured learning environment.
• Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and resilience.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent support across the school day.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in supporting young people.
• Patient, calm and proactive attitude.
• Experience or training in behaviour management or manual handling (preferred).
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Experience with children or young people (desirable).
• Aspiration towards roles such as Youth Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Teacher or Psychologist.
