Benefits and Welfare Advisor (Outreach Worker)

About the role
This permanent, full‑time position supports residents in Lewisham who are experiencing benefit difficulties or financial hardship. You will deliver tailored advice, help with claim preparation and act as an advocate with public agencies, empowering clients to achieve greater financial stability.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice on benefits such as Universal Credit, ESA and PIP.
- Liaise with the DWP, Housing Benefit teams and other agencies to resolve claim issues.
- Arrange and accompany residents to Job Centre or agency appointments, acting as an advocate when required.
- Assist residents in managing arrears, negotiating repayment plans and improving debt management.
- Deliver budgeting guidance and collaborate with financial inclusion teams to promote money‑management skills.
- Maintain accurate case records in line with data‑protection regulations.
- Coordinate with support workers and external partners to ensure holistic assistance.
Required profile
- Motivated, compassionate professional with experience in welfare advice or similar roles.
- Strong knowledge of UK benefits systems and entitlement processes.
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a community‑focused team.
