Bookkeeper (Hybrid) – Reading, UK

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Bookkeeper to join our growing team in Reading. You will handle bookkeeping for a variety of SME clients, ensuring accurate financial records and timely reporting while working in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform day‑to‑day bookkeeping and data entry for allocated clients.
• Prepare final trial balances, including opening/closing balances, accruals, pre‑payments, depreciation and year‑end journals.
• Produce management accounts and maintain a complete audit trail.
• Complete VAT returns and manage VAT registrations or de‑registrations.
• Set up new clients on Xero and handle conversion balances.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, addressing queries and ensuring high service standards.
• Record all hours worked on assignments accurately.

Required profile

• Ability to prepare VAT summaries and returns.
• Understanding of PAYE concepts for bookkeeping purposes.
• Experience assisting managers with HMRC enquiries.
• AAT qualified, ACCA part‑qualified, or qualified by experience.
• Organised, methodical and able to meet strict deadlines.
