Branch Cook, Supermarket Assistant

About the role

As a Branch Cook, Supermarket Assistant at a Waitrose in Dorchester, you will work in the back-of-house of the Partner Dining Room, preparing hot and cold food for Partners during their break times. Outside the kitchen you support the wider shop floor team, providing the service and passion for food that distinguishes the Partnership. The post is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week), working Tuesday to Saturday with early starts and late finishes, at £14.31 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Run the kitchen smoothly under the direction of the management team
• Keep the kitchen clean, tidy and safe
• Control portions, preparation and storage to minimise food wastage
• Follow high food hygiene standards
• When not in the kitchen, help with stock replenishment and keep shelves full and well placed
• Fulfil online customer orders for delivery to customers' doors
• Reduce wastage through product due diligence and markdowns on items approaching sell-by dates
• Support the wider shop team with checkout support, Click & Collect orders and on-demand orders

Required profile

• Experience as a cook in a catering or hospitality environment
• Passion for food and a varied, nutritious menu
• Customer-focused, able to engage Partners with the food offered
• Commercial awareness: drive sales in the dining room while controlling costs and wastage
• Flexible to move between kitchen and shop floor as required

Required skills

• Desirable: City & Guilds 706 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent
• Desirable: Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2
