Building Maintenance Trainee

About the role

The Welbeck Estate is looking for a Building Maintenance Trainee to join its Property Maintenance team at its Pegswood estate in Northumberland. This is a full-time, 40-hour Monday to Friday position for someone starting or developing a career in property maintenance, working alongside experienced team members and receiving practical training across a wide range of building trades.

Key responsibilities

• Residential and commercial property refurbishment, property clear-outs and site clearances
• Painting and decorating, flooring installation and repair, kitchen and bathroom installation
• Joinery repair, re-pointing and minor masonry repair, fencing
• External painting and woodwork maintenance, minor roof repairs (working at height)
• Clearing drainage systems and gutters, assisting external contractors as required
• Administrative support: tracking and updating Excel spreadsheets for refurbishment projects and maintenance programmes, and general maintenance-related admin

Required profile

• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and genuine interest in learning practical building and maintenance skills
• Previous property maintenance experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training is provided
• Enthusiastic, reliable, takes pride in a job done well, and works well in a team while using their own initiative
• Good communication skills and courtesy to tenants, contractors and the public
• Full UK driving licence or working towards one
