Building Surveyor

About the role

Braintree District Council is seeking a qualified Building Surveyor to join its Property and Asset Management Team. You will provide professional asset and estate management services, delivering property management solutions for a diverse portfolio of commercial properties, land, leisure centres, and community assets.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake and commission building surveying duties such as condition surveys, schedules of dilapidations, and planning and building control applications.
• Prepare specifications, drawings and manage contract administration and project delivery.
• Support the Asset Management Team with property‑related maintenance, regulatory compliance and delivery of minor works and major capital projects.
• Lead design and project management of maintenance and refurbishment schemes, including contractor instructions and site meeting attendance.
• Prepare and submit planning and building regulation applications for minor works projects.
• Appoint, coordinate and manage external consultants for capital and maintenance projects.
• Investigate building issues and commission specialist input when required.

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant subject area (e.g., Building Surveying, Construction, Architecture).
• Professional experience in building surveying, asset management or related fields.
