Buyer – Automotive Advanced Manufacturing

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to join a leading advanced manufacturing business focused on automotive technology. The role goes beyond traditional purchasing, giving you ownership of a strategic commodity area and the chance to influence product development from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Lead sourcing activities for new product programmes, from supplier selection to contract award.
• Negotiate commercial agreements, pricing and long‑term contracts that deliver value.
• Develop and implement commodity strategies that support growth and future technology programmes.
• Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships while driving performance improvements and cost optimisation.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Programme Management and Operations throughout the product lifecycle.
• Manage supplier readiness and industrialisation activities to ensure successful launches.
• Resolve commercial and supply‑chain challenges quickly to support production.
• Analyse market trends and raw‑material indices to inform sourcing decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement or buying within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of negotiating and managing supplier contracts.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, programme and operations teams.
• Excellent analytical skills and a data‑driven approach to sourcing decisions.
• Self‑motivated, able to take ownership of a commodity area and drive continuous improvement.
