Buyer – Timber, Joinery & Glass

About the role

A well‑established manufacturing business on the outskirts of Coventry is seeking an experienced Buyer to join its procurement team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Senior Buyer, you will own purchasing activity for timber, joinery and glass categories, supporting production, engineering and logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Place and manage purchase orders for timber, joinery and glass materials.
• Run MRP/ERP action messages, maintain open order books and monitor supplier lead times.
• Manage relationships with UK and European suppliers, coordinate deliveries and resolve shortages.
• Negotiate price, lead time and terms with suppliers.
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate procurement.
• Maintain supplier performance data and report on key metrics.
• Contribute to cost‑saving initiatives and continuous improvement projects.

Required profile

• Operational buying experience in manufacturing, engineering or construction.
• Hands‑on experience with MRP/ERP systems; SAP is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with sourcing timber, joinery, glass or similar materials (or related manufacturing background).
• Comfortable working from technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
• Commercially sharp, well‑organised and able to manage a high volume of orders.
• Excellent communicator capable of building strong supplier relationships.

• Salary up to £40,000 per year (depending on experience).
