Buying Manager - Ingredients

About the role

Morrisons is looking for a strategic, commercially driven Buying Manager to lead the sourcing of raw ingredients used across many products in the group. The role sits at the intersection of raw material procurement and retail execution, supporting category strategy, driving the end-to-end P&L and acting as the authority on food ingredients for the manufacturing operations. It is based at Whitewalls Industrial Estate, Colne, on a permanent, 37-hour-per-week, day-shift basis.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute long-term sourcing strategies for specific ingredient categories
• Own category sales, margin targets and the procurement budget, and identify commercial levers to mitigate inflation and optimise total cost of ownership
• Lead initiatives to improve yield and profitability, working with site teams to reduce waste at scale
• Act as senior partner to retail and site directors, advising on market trends and performance
• Set best-in-class operating procedures that meet food safety and quality standards
• Partner with NPD to source ingredients for new product launches

Required profile

• Proven buying or procurement experience in food ingredients, commodities or FMCG manufacturing
• Track record of managing complex P&Ls and delivering year-on-year cost savings and margin growth
• Ability to analyse global market data and turn it into a sourcing roadmap
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to lead taste panels, supplier negotiations and internal change programmes
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel to suppliers and retail sites
