Chief Data Officer – Lead Oxford Data Office

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Data Officer to establish and lead the new Oxford Data Office within Digital and Information Services. The role will shape how data is governed, connected and leveraged across research, teaching and operational decision‑making at the University of Oxford.

Key responsibilities

• Set up the Oxford Data Office from the ground up, defining its strategic direction and governance framework.
• Provide senior leadership for data strategy, ensuring data is trusted, accessible and high‑value for the university.
• Drive integration of data across research, teaching and administrative functions.
• Collaborate with Digital and Information Services to embed data‑focused transformation across the institution.
• Represent the university in external data initiatives and partnerships.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in data management, analytics or data governance.
• Visionary mindset with ability to build new organisational capability.
• Strong understanding of higher‑education or research environments is desirable.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
