Children's Team Manager – Cared for Children

About the role

Our client, a Greater Manchester council, is looking for a Children’s Team Manager to lead the Cared for Children team in Bury. The role offers a competitive rate of up to £46 per hour and is ideal for a qualified social worker passionate about improving outcomes for children in care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and support a team of social workers and practitioners delivering services to cared for children and young people.
• Oversee assessment, care planning, permanency planning and statutory reviews, ensuring child‑centred, outcome‑focused plans.
• Provide direction on complex cases, supporting risk management, safeguarding and decision‑making.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners such as education, health, fostering services and independent reviewing officers.
• Monitor team performance, quality of practice and statutory compliance, meeting required timescales.
• Champion the voice of the child in all planning and decision‑making processes.
• Deliver regular supervision, professional development and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Contribute to service development and strategic planning to enhance stability and permanence for children.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
• Minimum three years’ experience as a qualified social worker.

Required skills

• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Expert knowledge of child protection, care planning and statutory frameworks.
• Excellent multi‑agency collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to manage risk, safeguard children and make complex decisions.
