Claims Manager - Commercial & Schemes

About the role

Howden Commercial & Schemes is looking for a Claims Manager to lead a high-performing team within its Commercial Claims Division. This is a full-time, permanent role with a hybrid arrangement: two days per week from the Birmingham office, with teams based in Stourbridge, Derby and Wales and regular travel. The manager takes full ownership of a team of Claims Executives and Handlers, developing people and shaping career progression.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and mentor Claims Executives and Handlers, running regular 1-to-1s, performance reviews, skills gap analyses and performance management activities, including PIPs, apprenticeship development and recruitment.
• Take ownership of day-to-day claims team operations and support operational strategy, policies and procedures.
• Drive accountability and continuous improvement, using MI and data dashboards to identify inefficiencies and work with the Claims Operations and Business Performance Manager on improvements.
• Collaborate with HR, L&D, Broking and Client Servicing teams, and manage client complaints in line with regulatory and compliance standards.

Required profile

• At least 3 years' experience in a leadership or managerial role in the commercial claims insurance market, with a track record of leading and developing teams.
• Cert CII qualified (or working towards).
• Strong understanding of general insurance principles and commercial claims handling, and knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data/reporting tools.
