Clinical Head of Unit

About the role

The Clinical Head of Unit will lead the clinical and operational delivery of a residential care home in Dartmouth, providing nursing, dementia and respite care for up to 79 residents. This senior position combines hands‑on clinical oversight with strategic leadership to ensure safe, high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical and operational leadership for the unit, ensuring compliance with care plans, best practice and regulatory standards.
• Oversee clinical governance, medication management and performance monitoring across the team.
• Mentor, support and develop nursing and care staff, fostering a confident and capable workforce.
• Collaborate with the Home Manager and senior leadership to drive continuous improvement and service excellence.
• Respond proactively to changes in resident needs and operational demands, including working alternate weekends.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with a current NMC PIN.
• Proven clinical leadership and decision‑making experience, preferably in a unit manager or similar senior role.
• Strong ability to oversee standards, compliance and performance within a care setting.
• Excellent communication, organisational and team‑building skills.
