Clinical Waste Driver/Porter

About the role

The Clinical Waste Driver/Porter provides a vital NHS Borders‑wide service, collecting clinical and special waste from hospitals, health centres, clinics and private contractors and delivering it to the waste station at Borders General Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Collect clinical and special waste from designated sites across the NHS Borders region.
• Transport waste safely to the waste station at Borders General Hospital.
• Secure waste for uplift by contracted waste removal companies.
• Maintain accurate records of waste collections and handovers.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and waste management regulations.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in driving, with a valid UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently, using own initiative.
• Strong time‑management skills to meet collection schedules.
• Familiarity with the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework is advantageous.
