CNC Machinist – 5 Axis (Swindon)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with 5‑axis expertise to join our manufacturing team in Swindon. You will operate both 3‑axis and 5‑axis CNC machines, turning complex engineering designs into high‑precision composite components for aerospace, automotive, defence and space applications.

Key responsibilities

• Set up machines with the correct tools, fixtures and programs for a variety of parts.
• Fine‑tune G‑codes, speeds and feeds to ensure optimal machining performance.
• Provide feedback to CNC programmers on cutter paths, tooling, speeds and feeds based on material properties.
• Run multiple machines in parallel where cycle times allow.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to reduce cycle times and increase yield.
• Collaborate with programmers, engineers and team members to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain detailed documentation of setup sheets and process parameters.
• Record material usage and labour hours against each job card.
• Inspect the first part of each batch, monitoring tool wear before full production.

Required profile

• Proven experience in 5‑axis CNC machining (Rotary Table and Gantry systems).
• Ability to operate turning equipment is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, materials and tooling.
• High level of precision and attention to detail.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
