CNC / Manual Machinist – Low-Volume Turning (Temp-to-Perm)

About the role

We are looking for a skilled CNC / Manual Machinist to specialise in low‑volume turning on a temporary‑to‑permanent basis. You will own the full manufacturing cycle for small batches and one‑off components, from interpreting technical drawings to delivering finished parts.

Key responsibilities

• Read engineering drawings and raw stock to program, set up and machine low‑volume turned parts.
• Operate, set up and program XYZ semi‑CNC and manual lathes.
• Select appropriate cutting tools and calculate optimal speeds and feeds.
• Perform manual lathe setups for prototype or one‑off parts.
• Interpret GD&T to inspect and verify part precision.
• Adapt turning techniques for a variety of metals including stainless steel, aluminium, brass and alloys.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a jobbing shop, prototyping lab or low‑volume turning environment.
• Ability to read and fully interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Self‑motivated craftsman capable of working with minimal supervision.
• Strong foundational knowledge of manual turning and semi‑CNC controls.

Required skills

• Engineering drawing interpretation and GD&T.
• Programming XYZ semi‑CNC lathes (ProtoTRAK, XYZ ProTURN).
• Manual lathe operation and setup.
• Cutting‑tool selection and speed/feed calculation.
• Machining stainless steel, aluminium, brass and alloy materials.
