Commerce Writer, GQ

About the role

GQ is looking for a Commerce Writer to help grow GQ Recommends' style content. The writer produces a daily lineup of commerce content, from in-depth buying guides to product news, with an emphasis on visual storytelling through video, social, newsletter and other emerging formats. The role reports to the Commerce Director and works with editorial, cross-functional departments and external partners to meet revenue growth targets.

Key responsibilities

• Pitch, write and update seasonal shopping guides, roundups and single-item pieces for GQ Recommends' style coverage
• Work with SEO to optimise content for search, newsletters and social
• Help develop content lineups with the Commerce Editor and merchant partners to support revenue goals
• Collaborate with editorial, social and video teams to keep the brand's voice consistent across platforms
• Experiment with new formats and visual storytelling approaches
• Assist with the newsletter strategy, including vertical growth, quality and acquisition
• Execute partnership content at brand level and help conceive new shoppable, multi-modal content formats

Required profile

• At least three years of writing experience in a digital media environment; a background in service journalism and product recommendations preferred
• Keen understanding of the affiliate landscape and comfort moving between fashion categories such as sneakers, suiting and everyday wear
• Strong attention to detail, trends and packaging, and a clear editorial point of view
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, advertising, design, video and engineering teams

Required skills

• Familiarity with affiliate platforms and programs (e.g. Skimlinks and Amazon)
• Understanding of web analytics, SEO and commerce best practices
• Conversational, factually accurate commerce writing
