Commercial Assurance Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Commercial Assurance Specialist to join our Commercial Projects team. The role will provide financial governance, commercial assurance and performance oversight across a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery within approved budgets, regulatory allowances and commercial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain financial governance processes for the Commercial Projects portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with NGED financial governance, delegated authority and internal control requirements.
• Provide independent assurance that project expenditure stays within approved budgets and thresholds.
• Introduce and maintain commercial controls (‘guard rails’) to minimise financial risk and prevent overspend.
• Monitor project spend against budgets, regulatory allowances and commercial targets and produce accurate forecasts in collaboration with Area Leads, Commercial Managers and Delivery Partners.
• Identify emerging financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop reporting and insight to support management decision‑making and support commercial reviews and audits.
• Challenge project assumptions and balance operational delivery with commercial performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commercial or project financial management, including budget management, forecasting and governance.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret data and provide meaningful insights.
• Experience monitoring project budgets, expenditure and forecasting performance.
