Commercial Lawyer – Consultant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to join Richard Nelson LLP as a self‑employed consultant. The role offers the flexibility to work remotely or from our Plymouth office while delivering high‑value commercial legal services to a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert commercial law advice and representation to corporate clients.
• Manage a personal caseload, ensuring timely and effective delivery of legal solutions.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, aiming to grow a profitable book of business.
• Set and negotiate fees, with earnings based on a 70‑85% revenue split.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, professional indemnity, and firm policies.
• Collaborate with the firm’s compliance, admin and accounts teams.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with post‑qualification experience in commercial law.
• Senior‑level professional capable of managing an independent caseload.
• Proven client following with a minimum billing target of £100,000 per annum.
• Desire to work autonomously within a supportive national firm.
