Commercial Lawyer Consultant (Self-Employed)

About the role

Richard Nelson LLP, a nationally recognised law firm, is seeking experienced commercial solicitors to join its Consultant team on a self‑employed basis. You will operate with full autonomy, managing your own client portfolio while benefiting from the firm’s compliance, administrative and training support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist commercial law advice to businesses and professionals.
• Manage a personal caseload from intake through resolution.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships to generate repeat business.
• Ensure all work complies with regulatory and Lexcel standards.
• Collaborate with the firm’s compliance, admin and accounts teams.

Required profile

• Senior solicitor with post‑qualification experience in commercial law.
• Proven ability to manage a high‑value caseload independently.
• Existing client base generating at least £100,000 of annual billing.
• Desire to focus on fee earning without traditional partnership constraints.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of commercial law and related regulations.
• Expertise in client management and case handling.
• Ability to set fees, meet financial targets and track revenue.
• Familiarity with compliance and Lexcel accreditation requirements.
