Commercial Lawyer

About the role

The Legists are looking for a Commercial Lawyer to join their Leeds office. You will provide legal advice to government departments, handle commercial matters, draft contracts and support litigation and advisory work across a range of public‑sector clients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial legal advice to senior officials and ministers.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts and commercial agreements.
• Support litigation and advisory cases, managing a varied caseload.
• Liaise with departmental officials to ensure compliance with legislation.
• Contribute to policy development and legislative drafting where required.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strong analytical judgement and ability to deliver risk‑based advice.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Willingness to develop expertise across advisory, litigation, employment and commercial law.

Required skills

• Commercial law knowledge.

• Advisory experience in public‑sector contexts.
• Understanding of EU, employment and regulatory law.
