Commercial Litigation Paralegal

About the role

Due to internal progression, we have an excellent opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Commercial Litigation team in Exeter on a full‑time permanent basis. The role supports fee earners by providing administrative assistance that enables them to work efficiently. An interest in advocacy is essential, and training will be provided for any court work.

Key responsibilities

• Receive new enquiries by email or telephone and open client files.
• Prepare and send initial client engagement documentation and review ID documents for Money Laundering compliance.
• Enter email correspondence and attachments into the case management system and keep matter summary sheets up to date.
• Draft straightforward legal documents using provided precedents and file them online.
• Maintain a strict diary of deadlines and timescales for the team’s matters.
• Ensure accurate photocopying and scanning, supervising the Office Assistant where needed.
• Attend to clients on the phone and in person, record messages and pass them on promptly.
• Provide proactive administrative support, track matter progress, identify follow‑up actions and contribute to billing, WIP, disbursements and file closures.

Required profile

• Pro‑active, enthusiastic with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Excellent organisational and administrative abilities, capable of multi‑tasking and a confident telephone manner.
• Solid IT competence, including Microsoft Office, Outlook and basic Excel functions.
• Experience in a law‑firm environment is ideal, or a recent law graduate seeking to progress their career.
