Communications Officer

About the role

The National Housing Federation is seeking a Communications Officer to shape and share its key messages on issues such as ending homelessness and building safety. Working across a range of projects, you will develop and deliver communications plans that inform and engage our members and the wider public.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and evaluate communications plans for assigned projects and campaigns.
• Produce and manage newsletters and maintain website content for your project areas.
• Translate complex policy and research information into clear, compelling copy for diverse audiences.
• Advise colleagues on effective communication strategies and target‑audience messaging.
• Measure the impact of communications activities and report on reach and effectiveness.

Required profile

• Proven experience creating and executing communications plans for projects or campaigns.
• Excellent writing and copy‑writing abilities, with a talent for simplifying complex information.
• Ability to guide staff on best practices for audience‑focused communication.
• Experience measuring communications impact and evaluating reach.

What we offer

• Salary: £35,850 (London) or £32,109 (National) per annum.
• Fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave until August 2027 (35 hours per week).
• 27 days annual leave plus statutory holidays and three Christmas closure days.
