Community Safety Patrol Officer

About the role

The Community Safety Patrol Officer (CSPO) role is a front‑line position focused on making Basingstoke and Deane safer, cleaner and more welcoming. You will work outdoors, often on foot or bicycle, to reassure residents and deter antisocial behaviour and environmental crime.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out high‑visibility patrols across the borough, including unsocial hours and all weather conditions.
• Engage with residents, businesses and local organisations to build confidence and address concerns.
• Challenge and address unacceptable behaviour in a firm but fair manner.
• Support police and partner agencies in tackling local safety issues.
• Act as an ambassador for the council and police, promoting community cohesion.

Required profile

• Confident, approachable and comfortable interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to think quickly, use initiative and remain calm in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Resilience and professionalism during shift work, including night and weekend hours.

Required skills

• Clear DBS check and Level 2 Non‑Police Personnel Vetting (UK residency of at least 3 years).
• Eligibility to meet Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) standards.
