Compliance Manager – Regulatory Affairs

About the role

The Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) team at American Express is seeking a Manager to support the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Testing. The role will act as a liaison with regulators and trade bodies, ensuring the company meets its compliance obligations across the UK retail banking and payments sector.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permission variations and other supervisory documentation.
• Produce regular compliance updates for senior management and the Board/Governance Committee.
• Provide advisory support to UK Lines of Business on compliance matters.
• Lead horizon‑scanning of regulatory change and coordinate implementation with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with first, second and third line teams to communicate compliance activities and address market issues.
• Assist in drafting and maintaining compliance policies and procedures.
• Deliver regulatory insights and findings to the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Testing.

Required profile

• Experience in regulatory liaison, compliance consultancy or similar roles covering FCA Handbook topics such as Consumer Duty, SMCR, SYSC, CONC.
• Working knowledge of the UK retail banking/payments industry and its regulatory environment (FCA/PRA).
• Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to rapid changes.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
