Construction & Commercial Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

We are seeking a Construction & Commercial Senior Legal Counsel to join SGN’s legal team in London. The role will act as a key legal business partner, advising procurement, operations and commercial teams on high‑impact construction and commercial contracts that support the delivery of gas infrastructure and emerging bio‑methane and hydrogen projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of contracts including construction, major infrastructure, supply, collaboration, professional services and service agreements.
• Provide advice on contract interpretation, manage disputes and coordinate internal and external counsel to achieve cost‑effective solutions.
• Support framework agreements, customise standard form contracts and drive standardisation across the business.
• Build strong cross‑functional relationships with legal colleagues and senior stakeholders throughout the national network.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with a practising certificate in England & Wales or Scotland.
• Approximately 5 years post‑qualification experience, preferably with in‑house exposure.
• Demonstrated experience in construction and/or commercial contract work.

Required skills

• Expertise in drafting and negotiating construction and commercial agreements.
• Strong understanding of contract law, dispute resolution and procurement processes.
