Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist to join its multidisciplinary addiction service. Working across Possilpark and Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centres, you will provide specialist psychiatric care for patients with opiate and alcohol dependence within a 9‑5, Monday‑to‑Friday schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for individuals with substance use disorders.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, offering consultant expertise and guidance.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of recovery‑oriented care pathways.
• Engage in research projects, audit activities and teaching initiatives.
• Provide liaison services to general psychiatry and other NHS departments as required.

Required profile

• Full registration with the GMC.
• Eligibility for approval under the Scottish Mental Health Act as an AMP.
• MRCPsych or FRCPsych qualification (or equivalent).
• CCST (or eligibility for specialist registration/CESR).
• Demonstrated experience in addiction psychiatry or related specialist training.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of addiction psychiatry and substance‑use treatment modalities.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and provide consultant‑level clinical advice.
• Experience with research, audit and teaching in a clinical setting.
