Contractor Safety Risk & Policy Lead

About the role

As the Contractor Safety Risk and Policy Lead you will shape and enforce health and safety policies that protect contractors across SGN’s extensive network. You will drive compliance, manage risk, and support the wider safety strategy to ensure high‑risk work is performed safely.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and maintain contractor safety policies aligned with regulatory standards.
• Identify operational risks, implement controls and ensure robust reporting mechanisms.
• Monitor compliance through audits, inspections and assurance activities.
• Provide expert guidance, training and communication to operational and leadership teams.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to embed a strong safety culture and support change‑management initiatives.
• Produce regular performance reports, analyse trends and recommend strategic improvements.

Required profile

• Recognised health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH National General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, NVQ).
• Proven experience in contractor safety management or similar risk‑focused role.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and assurance frameworks.
• Ability to influence and communicate effectively with diverse teams.
