Controls Engineer – Automation Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a Controls Engineer with a strong background in automation to join a fast‑growing manufacturing organisation in Cambridgeshire. The role is based in a workshop environment, Monday to Friday, with limited travel, and offers the chance to become the go‑to technical expert for controls projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and development of automated systems and equipment.
• Manage controls and automation projects from concept through to commissioning.
• Provide technical support and fault finding for PLC‑controlled machinery.
• Collaborate with production teams to ensure reliable operation of automation assets.

Required profile

• Experience in electrical, PLC and controls/automation within an FMCG or similar manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work independently in a workshop setting and communicate technical information clearly.
• Willingness to commute to St Ives and surrounding areas.

Required skills

• PLC programming and configuration.
• Electrical controls design and implementation.
