Copy Director, Tatler

About the role

Condé Nast is hiring a Copy Director for its magazine Tatler, based in London. The role oversees the copy desk and its sub-editing workflow across all of the magazine's platforms, including its supplements. It suits someone with a natural creative flair for headlines, sells and captions, who has previously worked as a senior copy editor and can lead a team to high standards within production deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the copy desk so that pieces have witty, sophisticated headlines and sells, and informative captions
• Understand Tatler's style, including how and when to use titles and how to spot recurring Bystander faces
• Lead fact-checking and make sure the magazine is error-free, with correct spelling and grammar
• Own the copy-editing workflow across the main magazine, supplements and other platforms, and occasionally edit raw copy
• Develop the copy team's skills and work with other department heads to keep the workflow smooth
• Flag possible legal issues, sign off pages on final proof and carry out careful Cromalin reads
• Liaise with production on revisions to Cromalins and Sherpas

Required profile

• Previous experience as a senior copy editor
• Proven team-management skills
• A calm, collected and methodical approach in a fast-paced environment
• An excellent copy editor who can embed Tatler's tone into every piece

Required skills

• Excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills, particularly InDesign and InCopy
• CMS experience
