Corporate Director of Children’s Services

About the role

The Corporate Director of Children’s Services will lead the strategic direction and delivery of children’s services across Buckinghamshire. Reporting to senior council leadership, this role shapes policy, builds partnerships and ensures every child receives safe, supportive, and high‑quality services.

Key responsibilities

• Set the vision and strategic priorities for children’s services, aligning with council objectives.
• Oversee service delivery, performance monitoring and continuous improvement across the county.
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, health providers, voluntary organisations, police and community groups.
• Lead a senior team, fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability and innovation.
• Represent the council in external forums, influencing policy and securing resources.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safeguarding standards.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in children’s services, social care or a related public sector area.
• Proven track record of strategic planning, service transformation and partnership working.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development and multi‑agency collaboration.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to lead large, complex organisations and drive cultural change.
