Cover Teacher – Flexible Secondary School Supply

About the role

This position offers flexible, supply teaching work across a range of supportive secondary schools in Lewisham. It is suitable for retired teachers, graduates, aspiring teachers, or anyone with specialist subject knowledge seeking classroom experience.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons for KS3 and KS4 students in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Encourage student engagement and support pupils of varying abilities and needs.
• Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
• Build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Gain experience across a variety of schools and subjects.
• Choose assignments that match your availability and preferred locations.

Required profile

• A Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc or equivalent).
• Passion for working with young people.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong classroom presence and behaviour‑management ability.
• Confidence to supervise classes independently.
• Flexible, professional approach and commitment to safeguarding.
• Previous classroom experience is beneficial but not essential.
