Credit Controller (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Bristow and Sutor Group is looking for an organised, proactive and commercially aware Credit Controller to join its Finance team on a fixed-term basis, providing maternity cover from 1 January 2027 to 28 April 2028. The postholder manages customer accounts day to day, collects payments in line with agreed credit terms, minimises overdue debt and supports the company's cash flow. The basic salary is £27,840 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the sales ledger so that customer accounts are accurate, up to date and well maintained.
• Contact customers by telephone and email to chase outstanding and overdue invoices and secure payment within agreed timescales.
• Review aged debt reports regularly and take action to reduce overdue balances.
• Reconcile customer accounts, investigate discrepancies and resolve queries promptly.
• Handle invoice and payment disputes with internal departments to reach timely resolutions.
• Allocate and process customer payments accurately, working with the Accounts Payable Clerk.
• Monitor credit limits and payment terms, escalate credit risks and recommend account holds in line with credit control procedures.
• Maintain professional customer relationships and encourage timely payments while keeping a high standard of service.
• Work with Sales, Customer Service and other departments to resolve account queries and barriers to payment, and give regular updates on debt and collection activity.
• Assist with month-end procedures, account reconciliations and other finance administration as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a credit control or sales ledger role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organisation, accuracy and attention to detail; able to work independently and contribute to a wider finance team.
• A customer-focused approach, with the confidence to discuss overdue payments.

Required skills

• Experience using Sage 200 is a significant advantage but not essential.
