Cyber Security Specialist (SecOps)

About the role

The Cyber Security Specialist (SecOps) will join a leading professional services organisation in Liverpool, providing expertise in security monitoring, incident investigation and threat analysis. You will act as the subject‑matter expert for security operations, supporting both proactive and reactive activities to raise the organisation’s security maturity.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and respond to security incidents escalated through the Security Operations function.
• Perform detailed security event analysis, identify threats and recommend further investigation.
• Collaborate with external security service providers to manage alerts and incident handling.
• Support cyber incident response as a technical security specialist.
• Analyse security metrics and trends, providing recommendations to improve controls and reduce risk.
• Deliver and manage security awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations and remediation.
• Maintain and optimise security monitoring and protection platforms across the technology estate.
• Conduct security reviews of systems, infrastructure and operational processes.
• Ensure alignment with regulatory, governance and industry best‑practice requirements.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of operational security controls and procedures.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in a Security Operations Centre (SOC) or equivalent cyber security environment.
• Demonstrated experience in security operations, cyber defence, incident response or threat detection.
• Strong understanding of cyber‑attack techniques, threat‑actor methodologies and mitigation strategies.
• Experience investigating security incidents and coordinating response activities.
• Knowledge of modern security frameworks and detection engineering concepts.
