Data Scientist - Hybrid London

About the role

Sainsbury's Data & Analytics team is looking for a Data Scientist to develop in-house data science solutions that automate decision-making and provide insights across the business. The role works in cross-functional agile squads on data science products, with hybrid working between home and the central London Farringdon office.

Key responsibilities

• Develop in-house data science solutions that automate decision-making and deliver insights across the business
• Contribute to the design and development of data science products in agile squads
• Deliver high-quality analyses that guide future development work
• Contribute to the team's continuous learning and upskilling

Required profile

• Degree level education, preferably in a mathematical, statistical or STEM discipline
• Track record of contributing to value-driving data science projects in a commercial setting
• Ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences and strong business acumen
• Comfortable working independently with own guidance and initiative
• Strong statistical foundation (regression, hypothesis testing, experimental design)

Required skills

• Production-grade Python and SQL code
• Sklearn and tree-based models
• Git best practices
• Cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP)
• Desirable: Azure ML pipelines and endpoints, ML in retail or supply chain, mathematical optimisation, causal inference, Graphical Neural Networks
