Depot Manager - General Haulage

About the role

This position offers the chance to lead a general haulage depot within a fast‑moving 3PL transport and distribution environment. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily logistics operations, meeting customer expectations and supporting the business’s growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all day‑to‑day depot activities, ensuring timely handling of inbound and outbound freight.
• Plan and schedule transport routes and distribution tasks to maximise resource utilisation and meet service level agreements.
• Monitor operational performance metrics, identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain strict compliance with health, safety legislation and industry regulatory standards across the depot.
• Lead, motivate and develop the depot team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency and accountability.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with key customers and suppliers to enhance service quality.
• Prepare, control and report on depot budgets, ensuring cost‑effective operations.
• Analyse performance data to drive strategic decisions and operational enhancements.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience managing a depot or similar logistics operation within transport and distribution.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and manage teams to achieve business targets.
• Solid understanding of health, safety and regulatory compliance requirements in logistics.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving capabilities with a focus on operational excellence.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills; CPC qualification is desirable.
