Depot Supervisor – Health, Safety & Compliance

About the role

The Depot Supervisor will be the visible health, safety and compliance champion for a busy recycling yard in Crawley. Working closely with operational teams, contractors and management, you will help maintain a safe, professional environment and ensure all activities meet company and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a constant presence across the yard, promoting a positive health and safety culture.
• Monitor adherence to site safety procedures, PPE requirements and speed limits for vehicles and pedestrians.
• Carry out routine site inspections and monthly safety audits, addressing any non‑conformities promptly.
• Support contractor control processes, including inductions and sign‑in procedures.
• Assist in investigations of accidents, incidents and near‑misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents and corrective measures.

Required profile

• Previous supervisory or compliance experience in a fast‑paced operational environment.
• Comfortable working outdoors around moving vehicles, plant machinery or logistics operations.
• Strong awareness of workplace health and safety principles.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence behaviours positively.

Required skills

• Health and safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely) – desirable.
• NEBOSH General Certificate – advantageous.
