Deputy Financial Controller

About the role

This position supports the Financial Controller in leading the financial control function for a charitable organisation based in London. The role combines oversight of statutory reporting, audit management and finance system optimisation, with a focus on leveraging technology to improve processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial controls and ensure statutory compliance.
• Oversee year‑end accounts, audit processes and external audit relationships.
• Drive improvements across finance systems, reporting and automation initiatives.
• Manage and develop a small finance team.
• Support AI adoption and broader process‑enhancement projects.
• Prepare statutory accounts, VAT returns, tax claims and regulatory reports.
• Maintain finance policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Oversee month‑end close, reconciliations and day‑to‑day finance operations.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and statutory reporting.
• Proven experience managing financial controls, year‑end processes and external audits.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience using ERP or finance systems to deliver high‑quality information.

Required skills

• Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or similar ERP platform).
• ERP system implementation and optimisation.
