Design Engineer – Mechanical Design (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading manufacturing business in Plymouth. The role involves taking products from concept through to production, working closely with internal teams and customers in a fast‑paced environment. Hybrid working is available.

Key responsibilities

• Create 3D models, concepts and detailed 2‑D production drawings for sheet‑metal components, weldments and assemblies.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) projects and continuous improvement of existing product ranges.
• Lead and contribute to design reviews with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Manage customer expectations and provide technical design expertise.
• Ensure designs meet manufacturing, quality, performance and cost targets.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and solve engineering problems.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, procurement and commercial teams to deliver successful projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum three years of experience in a design engineering role.
• Strong CAD proficiency, preferably with Creo or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience designing sheet‑metal and fabricated products.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) in a production environment.
• Experience with tolerance analysis and D‑FMEA methodologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
