Design Engineer – Mechanical Product Development

About the role
Terex Ecotec is seeking a Design Engineer to join its fast‑moving engineering team in Northern Ireland. Reporting to the Lead Engineer and based at the Campsie (or Farlough) manufacturing site, you will help develop new products and continuously improve existing machines for the global wood processing, biomass and recycling market.
Key responsibilities
- Develop engineered solutions for new product concepts and enhance the existing Ecotec range.
- Investigate customer complaints, perform root‑cause analysis and implement engineering changes.
- Ensure all designs meet safety, functional and reliability standards.
- Provide technical support to the dealer network and answer technical queries.
- Create complete design packages for manufacturing, including detailed and exploded drawings, engineering BOMs and documentation.
- Collaborate with production, purchasing and suppliers to reduce manufacturing costs.
- Apply group standards for quality, FMEA, design‑for‑manufacture, prototype development and field testing.
- Stay up‑to‑date with component advancements and competitor trends to incorporate latest technologies.
Required profile
- Experience in product design and development within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and communicate technical information.
- Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on cost‑effective and efficient design solutions.
- Willingness to support dealers and customers with technical expertise.
Required skills
- Proficiency in CAD design and creation of detailed/exploded drawings.
- Engineering BOM generation and documentation.
- FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) methodology.
- Design‑for‑Manufacture principles.
- Prototype development and field testing experience.
- Root‑cause analysis and implementation of corrective engineering changes.
- Use of engineering IT systems for data management.
