Development Underwriter – Life Sciences (Hybrid, UK)

About the role

Markel is looking for a Development Underwriter to own and grow a profitable Life Sciences portfolio across the UK. The role combines technical underwriting with a market‑facing approach, allowing you to build broker relationships, identify new opportunities and shape the future of the proposition.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage broker relationships across key UK markets.
• Create and convert new business opportunities within delegated authority.
• Underwrite Life Sciences risks and become a recognised specialist within your broker network.
• Maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities and keep CRM activity up‑to‑date.
• Provide market insight, influence underwriting appetite and represent Markel at broker meetings and industry events.

Required profile

• Strong broker development and relationship‑building skills.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes.
• Outgoing, relationship‑focused and commercially minded.
• Self‑motivated, resilient and comfortable working independently.
