Director Compensation & Benefits

About the role

American Express is seeking a Director of Compensation & Benefits to lead the design, governance, and execution of its total rewards framework across EMEA and the UK. Reporting to the Vice President, Compensation & Benefits EMEA, you will shape strategy, ensure compliance, and enhance the colleague value proposition.

Key responsibilities

• Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing compensation and benefits team.
• Deliver EMEA and UK compensation strategy, including market benchmarking, pay architecture, and regulatory disclosures such as the UK Gender Pay Gap and Netherlands Bonus Cap.
• Provide advisory support to business leaders on annual compensation cycles, incentive design, and reward decisions.
• Define and drive regional benefits strategy, overseeing retirement, healthcare, insurance, and wellbeing programs.
• Manage relationships with UK pension trustees to ensure effective governance and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee vendor strategy, ensuring delivery excellence, cost efficiency, and adherence to company standards.
• Lead implementation of regulatory initiatives, including the EU Pay Transparency Directive, and drive pay equity through analytics and communication.
• Maintain robust compliance, governance, and risk controls across total reward programs.

Required profile

• Senior leader with extensive experience in compensation and benefits within a large, multinational organization.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives across regions.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements in the UK and EU.
• Track record of building and developing high‑performing teams.
