Director of Operations

About the role

We are seeking an outstanding Director of Operations to join the executive team at St Bartholomew's Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive and Group COO, you will be a key member of the hospital board, driving service transformation, continuous improvement and strong governance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead hospital‑wide operational delivery, ensuring safety, efficiency and compliance with national standards.
• Oversee business planning, performance management and financial control across the Trust.
• Optimise demand and capacity, managing bed utilisation, theatre scheduling and service pathways.
• Champion equality, diversity and inclusion, using staff insight to reduce disparities.
• Support the opening of new facilities, including the breast cancer centre, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in complex healthcare operations.
• Proven ability to work with clinical and corporate leaders at executive level.
• Strong governance, regulatory and financial management expertise.
• Commitment to NHS values and to fostering an inclusive culture.
