Director of Product Engineering

About the role

The Director of Product Engineering will lead ClearCourse’s engineering organisation across seven verticals, balancing commercial priorities with technical excellence. Reporting to the Chief Technology & Transformation Officer (CTTO), this people‑first role is responsible for the performance, growth and delivery of all product engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide delivery leadership for engineering across Field Services, Health, Hospitality, Leisure, Retail, Payments and CETs.
• Serve as senior escalation point for capacity conflicts, capability gaps and critical resourcing risks.
• Line‑manage Heads of Product Engineering, set performance expectations and develop career pathways.
• Define and enforce engineering craft standards in partnership with the Director of Platform Engineering.
• Own headcount modelling, capacity planning and engineering cost visibility, presenting changes to senior leadership.
• Drive AI‑assisted development adoption across all verticals and coordinate corrective actions when needed.
• Co‑own group technology strategy at senior leadership team level and contribute to cost‑synergy milestones.
• Collaborate with Platform Operations, Finance and other senior stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large, multi‑disciplinary engineering organisations.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to align engineering delivery to business goals.
• Excellent people‑management skills, including coaching senior engineering leaders.
• Track record of establishing and maintaining engineering standards and best practices.
• Experience managing headcount, budgeting and cost‑visibility for engineering functions.
• Ability to champion AI‑driven development and drive technology adoption.
