Director of Research

About the role

The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (IPA) is launching a new data and research initiative and seeks a Director of Research to design and lead the program. This senior, remote position will serve as the chief intellectual architect, producing rigorous quantitative and qualitative insights for IPA members and the broader alternatives industry.

Key responsibilities

• Define and launch a high‑quality knowledge platform that delivers original research and data‑driven insights.
• Manage the full research lifecycle—from topic selection, data collection and analysis, to report writing and publication.
• Set research priorities in collaboration with leadership, members, sponsors and external experts.
• Produce quarterly outlooks, thematic studies, benchmarking reports and an annual flagship publication.
• Maintain rigorous research standards while leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency.
• Engage with members, sponsors and stakeholders to understand information needs and build strategic relationships.
• Monitor developments in private markets, capital markets, regulation, tax and retirement to translate findings into actionable insights.
• Oversee external partners, data providers and consultants to ensure quality and coordination.

Required profile

• Proven ability to work independently and build credibility with senior stakeholders.
• Exceptional analytical, writing and communication skills.
• Strong judgment and the capacity to synthesize complex quantitative and qualitative data.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
