Director, Project & Portfolio Management

About the role

This 6‑9 month contract position supports a leading media organisation through a critical transformation of its project and portfolio management processes. Reporting to the VP of Portfolio Management, the Director will help define a new operating model, drive governance, and ensure delivery of strategic initiatives across technology, product, and business teams.

Key responsibilities

• Translate strategic priorities into clear delivery plans, milestones and actionable steps.
• Act as the primary liaison between technology, product, business, governance and programme delivery teams.
• Maintain momentum on major initiatives by providing focus, pace and visibility across delivery activities.
• Lead change management to embed the new operating model across portfolios and projects.
• Identify risks, blockers or coordination gaps early and work with relevant teams to resolve them.
• Facilitate the flow of work across multiple teams, removing obstacles and sustaining progress.
• Produce concise progress updates for senior stakeholders.
• Represent the VP in key meetings and governance forums as required.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑leadership experience in complex, matrix‑based organisations.
• Proven track record in enterprise‑level project portfolio management and governance across digital, product, tech and engineering teams.
• Demonstrated change and transformation leadership using Waterfall, Agile or hybrid frameworks.
• Strong commercial acumen, financial planning, strategic investment and portfolio decision‑making experience.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with exposure to C‑suite audiences.
• Experience in senior technology leadership within large organisations, preferably media, publishing or e‑commerce.
