Domestic Cleaner – 28 hrs/week (Long‑Term Sickness Cover)

About the role

We are seeking a Domestic Cleaner to join a hospital in Swindon on a long‑term sickness cover basis. The role involves maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, supporting infection prevention and overall patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, dusting and surface sanitisation across wards, corridors, toilets, waiting areas and treatment rooms.
• Carry out scheduled deep cleans, including isolation rooms and other high‑risk areas, using approved equipment and products.
• Follow strict infection control procedures, cleaning high‑touch surfaces and using colour‑coded materials to avoid cross‑contamination.
• Comply with COSHH and health‑and‑safety regulations, wearing and disposing of PPE correctly.
• Report hazards, incidents or concerns promptly to supervisors.
• Collaborate with ward staff and healthcare teams, communicating effectively and maintaining a professional demeanor around patients and visitors.

Required profile

• Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare or similar environment.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Understanding of health‑and‑safety procedures and infection control standards.
• Good communication and customer‑service abilities.
• Desirable: Level 2 Cleaning Support Services qualification and experience with infection‑control environments.

Required skills

• Operation of cleaning equipment and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Application of infection‑control procedures and colour‑coded cleaning systems.

What we offer

• £12.71 per hour (visible salary).
• 28 hours per week, shift pattern 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, 4 days on, 4 days off.
• Initial 3‑month contract with strong potential for extension or permanent placement.
