Education Lawyer (Locum)

About the role

Sellick Partnership is partnering with Surrey County Council to source a locum Education Lawyer on a rolling three‑month basis. The role can start within weeks and offers the flexibility of fully remote work, with full‑time or part‑time hours considered.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation on Special Educational Needs (SEN) matters.
• Manage pre‑action protocols and judicial review applications related to education law.
• Handle complaints and liaise with stakeholders within the local authority.
• Prepare legal documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or Fellow of CILEX eligible to practise in England and Wales.
• Current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one) from the relevant regulatory body.
• Experience working within a local authority or similar public sector environment.

Required skills

• Expertise in education law, particularly SEN legislation.
• Proficiency with pre‑action protocols and judicial review procedures.
• Strong analytical and case‑management abilities.
